Welcome to Primary 7 with Miss Lubanski.

Numeracy
The class have been working hard this term on place value and addition. We have been working with numbers in the hundreds of millions. We have been discussing mental strategies for addition and choosing what works best for us. We have been also been doing problem solving regularly, we are getting better at tackling word problems!
During maths week we made 2D and 3D shapes out of barbeque skewers, play dough and masking tape, solving design challenges along the way.

Literacy
Our class novel this term is ‘Wonder’ and we love it! From this book we have been focusing on point of view as each chapter of the book is told by a different character.

In writing we have been focusing on functional writing and linking this with our topic. We have set writing targets that we are trying to achieve!
This year we have also been working hard to self and peer assess our writing to get constructive feedback on how we can improve our work.

As always we are working on our accuracy and fluency when reading however an extra focus has been on our expression, especially the Adjectives who have been reading plays.
We have been looking at a variety of different reading strategies to help our understanding of texts including Predicting, Connecting and Questioning.

Topic for this term  Primary 7’s topic this term is World War 2.
The children have loved learning about different aspects of the War. We have looked at what life was like during the War, Evacuation, The Blitz, Rationing and Propaganda and are looking forward to learning lots more. P7’s have been producing excellent homework based around this topic by creating models of spitfires and letters as if they were an evacuee- check out our wow work wall to see!
